GDU(Gun Data Display Unit)
The GDU is a handheld device that automates the coordination and communication of FDC missions.
Based on the known location, the MBCE and GDU can compute send and receive specific fire data for
each gun. The GDU provides quick and reliable calculations for fire to the GDU equipped Gun as well
as information on mission initiation, target, ammunition and completed mission data to Control. This information
is sent using wireless communication between the MBCE and GDU. The MBCE to GDU communication is
via secure WAN technology. The MBCE to Control communication is via a combination of WAN and radio modem.
The automated and real-time display of firing calculations to the GUN allows for more coordinated, efficient and
accurate calls for fire and better documentation of the event.
